About 100 students remain inside Hong Kong university amid standoff

More than 100 student protesters are still barricaded inside Hong Kong Polytechnic University on the third day of their standoff with police.

More than 1,000 others have been arrested, and as Redmond Shannon reports, police are waiting to arrest the rest of the demonstrators.

  1. Your children's destroy everything in Hong Kong beat up innocent people ,And you ask the police to return them to you what are you thinking

  2. We sympathised with yr concern about yr freedom BUT we r totally disgusted with yr destruction of what took many years to build n yr anger that disrupted so many other people's lives.Surely there is a price u would hv to pay for yr destructive actions.Young people, think before u act.Parents, u r also partly to blame for yr child's destructive actions- u hv not helped them to appreciate, value n respect, even when u disagree.Big in body(physical) but very small in character😠

  3. They are children who cry for democracy, in China you do not know that (even the internet is censored), they do not deserve to go to prison. China must respect different opinions.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”

  5. Let’s throw some malotov cocktails at cop cars and shoot some arrows at the cops, now the cops are mad at us??? Why???

  6. Even if protesters didn't start the fight first. Vandalizing a University property comes with a penalty and is considered a crime in the US. And any vandalism done that's aimed purely out of hate is considered a hate crime and those found guilty can face up to 10 years in jail. And I agree with the reporter here, if the police continue to hold back, this problem worsens. These rioters have to be investigated and the respective penalty need to be applied. Even if they are students, they can't be just let go. What is this showing even younger people? That vandalism is ok????

  7. Why dont the mother stop them from protesting now when they seeing the fight is losing they came down to plea, isnt it ridiculous

  8. now I understand why HKers disliked the extradition bill so much, they just love to have every criminal go home freely, the can easily forgive criminals, no matter it's a murder or rioting. they will easily forgiven the victims as well…em…well, forget the victims.

  9. There are no terrorist or extremist, only moderate freedom fighters, fighters that took away your freedom if you disagree with them.

  11. I'm a 70-year old Chinese. From young, I was taught, rightly, to hate communism but over the last 30 years, beginning with Deng Xiaoping, Gorbachev and Yeltsin, I grudgingly began to appreciate the progress these countries rapidly made. Their old, evil history is largely a thing of the past (or was it mainly western propaganda?). Someday, Communism in China will die a natural death but this will take time – meantime, China has vastly uplifted the lives of over a billion of her people – that is an achievement no democratic country has ever achieve! Let us give credit where it is due. To the minors who surrendered, I wish to say, resume your studies and careers, then grow up again when you have wised up. The world still hold new challenges for you to build upon. However, violence and wanton destruction are not challenges – it is, after all, easier to destroy than to build !
